Then God called out six men (angels) to come forward. Each had a deadly weapon in hand. One man in linen had a writer's inkhorn.
The glory of God departed before the destruction that was about to take place. He called to the one in linen and told him to put a mark on the foreheads of all the men who "sigh and cry over all the abominations that are done within it."
To the other men, God told them to kill every man, woman, and child who does not have the mark. Furthermore, He told them to "defile the temple, and fill the courts with the slain." And they went out and fulfilled God's command.
While this took place, Ezekiel fell on his face and cried out to God about the remnant of Israel because of Jerusalem. God reiterated that the house of Israel and Judah were "exceedingly great and the land was full of bloodshed, and the city full of perversity; for they say, 'The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see!' "
Afterward, the man in linen returned and said that he had done as he was commanded.
COMMENTARY
This is where God departed from the Holy Place. But first He had His remnant marked out before the destruction of the city. The people in Ezekiel's time had said that God was blind and would not judge them, which is the equal to people today who claim that God is dead. Anyone who holds this claim is wrong. God does see, even to the intentions of the heart.
God permitted the destruction of Jerusalem and burning of the temple by Nebuchadnezzar because, as He said, He is in control. He warned: "I will recompense their way upon their head." He means what He says.
There are those who are reserved for judgment and those who will be part of a remnant.
(Still bad connection.)
