God is serious about Tyre.
Because of their pride, God is going to cause their "riches, wares, and merchandise, mariners and pilots, caulkers and merchandisers, all men of war, and the entire company which is in [their] midst, [to] fall into the midst of the seas on the day of [their] ruin.
You will become a horror, and be no more forever.
COMMENTARY
The theme of this chapter is lamentation for Tyre, though I did not focus on that in my narrative above. God had already said He would destroy Tyre and why. Now Ezekiel lamented for Tyre because it was a great city in beauty and prestige.
Tyre was an important commercial center, and merchants came from all over to buy and sell. You could find anything you wanted in Tyre. But because of its pride in its glory, rituals, and wealth, God judged it. Now there was lamentation and weeping over the end of that great city.
It is one thing to enjoy prosperity, but it is entirely wrong to make it an idol or to worship it. God will judge it accordingly, which He will do in the future, and could very well be doing so now.
