Jeremiah 52

The final chapter of Jeremiah is a recap of the fall of Jerusalem.

"King Zedekiah did evil in the sight of the Lord"; therefore, "[the LORD] cast him out from His presence." The king of Babylon broke through the walls of Jerusalem and King Zedekiah fled, but was captured. The Chaldean army killed the princes, Zedekiah's sons, and then put out the king's eyes, took him to Babylon in fetters, and put him in prison until he died. Then they plundered and burned the temple and Jerusalem, and took a total of 4,600 people captive.

Lastly, Jehoiachin was released from prison and treated kindly until his death in Babylon.

COMMENTARY

Again, this is a wrap up of the prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem. What Jeremiah prophesied, could now be accepted as history.

Jeremiah also filled in what happened to Jehoiachin after he had been captured and imprisoned in Babylon. He died there, underscoring that no king from the family line of Salomon would sit on the throne of David; but another line -- of Nathan -- would provide the One who has claim to the throne of David: Jesus Christ!

AMEN!!
