The Word of the Lord came to the prophet Micah, during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, in Judah, concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.
Listen up! The Lord is coming down and will tread on the false places of worship, for the sins of Jacob and the house of Israel. All the idols will be destroyed.
Woe to those you devise their sin and practice it through covetousness and violence and oppression. For this, God permitted foreign invaders to take the land from the oppressors and divide the land for themselves.
False prophets told Micah to stop prophesying; they did not want to hear the truth. So they got what they wanted.
And yet, God promised restoration for Israel. He promised to assemble and gather a remnant, like sheep -- and the Lord will lead them.
The Lord is good!
COMMENTARY
McGee affirms many truths from Micah 1: that God controls nature and the weather on earth. Also, God is still moving in the affairs of men and governments.
In Micah 1, the prophet blamed Jerusalem and Samaria (basically, people in positions of authority. How we need good men in government!) God is going to judge these cities because of their influence over the nations of Israel and Judah.
McGee parallels this truth with America's foundational government, which has three branches, and each branch is supposed to keep the other branches accountable. Why? Because the Framers of our government knew the hearts of man were corruptible. America has a good government; but the character of the people who are in these positions of government and authority is criminal.
God judges individuals and He judges those in authority, and He judges whole nations. In Micah, He warned Jerusalem and Samaria that His judgment was coming.
THE PROPHET'S SECOND MESSAGE
In Micah 2, basically, God said the evildoers plot evil with intention to perform it; now, He will punish the evildoers, which is right because everything God does is right.
